Yankees Rookie Jasson Domínguez Snubbed by Executives in ESPN Survey

Jason Dominguez may be one of the oddsmaker’s favorite young players, but the New York Yankees rookie isn’t considered a contender to become a superstar in 2025, according to an ESPN survey of 18 MLB executives.

There is plenty of young talent in baseball this season: Roki Sasaki, Jackson Chourio, Jackson Merrill, Wyatt Langford, Matt Wallner and Jackson Holliday all got mentioned.

Domínguez, 22, has been near the top of most AL Rookie of the Year odds boards all spring, even through a rough start as he was learning left field.

He homered four times in eight games during his first big-league stint in 2023 before an elbow injury ended his season early. He was slowed last year by recovery from Tommy John surgery and a lat strain. When he did get to the big leagues, he was a slow learner in left field and his offense was lackluster.

So, there is certainly reason to wonder about how he will fare this season among a crowded field of talented youngsters.

Sasaki, the Japanese phenom, led the vote with five nods. Chourio and Merrill each got two. Langford, Wallner, and Holliday rounded it out with one each. Most of the picks had at least some MLB experience. Most came into the season with a lot of buzz.

So does Domínguez. But of the 18 MLB executives surveyed not one saw him as a potential star this season.

The Yankees may be a team better known for big contracts, aging stars, and pressure to win now, but they are also watching the next generation arrive.  Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells, maybe even Jazz Chisholm and Domínguez need to step into big roles this season for the Yankees to win.

However, Dominguez is the only one who comes into this MLB season as a rookie and is looking to prove himself.

He’s been hyped up since he was a 16-year-old who signed a $5.1 million bonus with the Yankees. Now, Martinez needs to prove that he belongs in the big leagues before he can prove he belongs among the elite kids in the game.
