White Lotus star’s new ‘gut-wrenching’ film sparks frenzy | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Theo James has sent White Lotus aficionados into a tizzy with his compelling performance in a Blue Marine Foundation video, spotlighting the catastrophic environmental impact of bottom trawling.

In this hard-hitting film, heavy nets scrape the seabed, decimating marine life, as Theo portrays a diner who believes he’s chosen an eco-friendly seafood meal until Stephen Fry, in the role of a sophisticated yet eerie maiÌ‚tre d’, unveils a startling revelation.

The climax sees Theo showered with a deluge of unwanted catch, symbolising the brutal reality of bottom trawling, as a net full of bycatch is unceremoniously dumped on him.

This poignant release aligns with the UK government’s recent declaration to outlaw bottom trawling in 41 marine conservation zones around England.

Blue Marine Foundation has labelled the film “gut wrenching” and its conclusion “shocking”.

Theo, expressing his passion for marine life and diving, commented on the experience: “As a keen diver I’ve long been captivated by the ocean and been horrified by the impact humans are having on it.”

He added, reflecting on the visceral scene: “Having had a load of bycatch dumped on me, it really drove home just how grotesque and devastating the practice of bottom trawling is.

“It was deeply unsettling but I was glad to do it if it helps drive real change.”

The charity’s Instagram post featuring the video has drawn a swarm of reactions, with fans lauding the message and Theo’s involvement.

Instagram user Viscountessnoma praised the initiative, saying: “Brilliant message. I knew I liked Theo James for a reason.”

Celebrities are earning praise for leveraging their influence to highlight vital environmental concerns with one saying: “Celebrities who use their platform to raise awareness on such critical issues. We are destroying the very life line that is keeping us alive.”

Appreciation poured in as another added: “Thank you all who were involved in bringing this to light.”

Oceansongproject lauded: “We love celebrities who care about the ocean, go Theo James!”.

Meanwhile, _h2zo_ exclaimed: “I can’t believe the coolest actors are doing this!!!!!! HELL YEAH.”
