Vice President JD Vance called out former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan for, in his view, claiming to be victimized by murdered activist Charlie Kirk’s old tweets.

Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated Sept. 10 while leading a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University’s campus. The cause that Kirk championed has not only continued but flourished since his tragic death galvanized conservatives around the country. However, some are still taking issue with the conservative activist’s past tweets.

In recent months, Americans have been also been sharply divided about New York politician Zohran Mamdani potentially becoming New York’s new mayor, particularly after he defended the phrase “globalize the intifada” in the past.

Only a few months before his death, Kirk had tweeted, “It’s not Islamophobia to notice that a man who wants to globalize the intifada is about to run America’s largest and once greatest city. It’s not Islamophobia to notice that Muslims want to import values into the West that seek to destabalize our civilization. It’s cultural suicide to stay silent.”

Hasan reposted the comment and wrote, “A reminder of what a racist bigot Kirk was and how much hate he incited against minorities.”

Vance in turn responded to the post by writing, “According to Mehdi Hassan, the real victim of hatred was not the guy murdered by a left wing lunatic, but people like Mehdi for facing criticism of their views.”

He added further, mocking what he argued Hasan’s mindset was by writing, “’Charlie Kirk was killed by a left wing radical. But I am the real victim because Charlie Kirk was mean to me.’”

Hasan was a MSNBC host and regular. His weekend program was canceled in November 2023 and he left the network in early 2024.

Other X platform users compared Hasan’s rhetoric to one of late comedian Norm Macdonald’s most famous jokes, where he said. “What terrifies me is if ISIS were to detonate a nuclear device and kill 50 million Americans. Imagine the backlash against peaceful Muslims?”
