Tom Brady isn’t a fan of former Jets QB who was rumored to land with Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders entered the offseason in search of a new quarterback — a venture that minority owner Tom Brady had a heavy hand in.

One of the top names available this winter was Sam Darnold, but according to Mike Silver of The Athletic, Brady wasn’t interested in pursuing the 28-year-old.

Some believed that the Raiders would make a try for Darnold, but Silver reports that Brady “was not in favor of that approach.”

The Raiders instead traded for Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith.

Darnold ended up signing a three-year, $100.5 million contract with Seattle in March. In 2024, he led the Vikings to a 14-3 record, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Last season was a career-changer for the quarterback. The Jets failed to develop a young Darnold after drafting him No. 3 overall in 2018. Being picked by the Jets turned out to be one of the worst things to happen to the quarterback in his career — the other being his eventual trade to the Panthers in 2021.

He spent 2023 as a backup in San Francisco, and last offseason signed a one-year deal with the Vikings. He got the starting job after Minnesota’s 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy went down with an injury that summer.
