Tennis Unable to Overtake No. 8 Auburn

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri tennis ended its weekend road trip in Alabama, dropping a 4-0 match to No. 8 Auburn on Sunday, March 23. Mizzou is now 11-8 and 2-7 in Southeastern Conference matches, while Auburn is 17-4 with a 6-3 conference record.

Starting in doubles play, Missouri went down 1-0, losing at No. 2 and No. 3, 6-1 and 6-0, respectively. Senior Mary Brumfield and Freshman Korina Roso fought against the No. 16 pair of DJ Bennett and Ava Hraster. The match ultimately went unfinished, with the MU pair down 4-2.

Moving to singles, Mizzou was not able to gain momentum as it dropped matches on courts one, five and six to give Auburn the 4-0 win. Senior Inah Canete on court two and graduate student Lailaa Bashir on court three were entrenched in battles that went unfinished, 0-6, 5-1 and 6-3, 1-1. Moreover, Bashir was leading No. 65-ranked Angella Okutovi before the match was abandoned. On court four, Roso also saw her ranked match go unfinished after taking the first set against No. 36 Merna Refaat.

The Tigers return home to welcome No. 49 Ole Miss to Columbia, Mo., on Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT. Pending weather, the action will take place either inside Green Tennis Center or at the Country Club of Missouri.
