The grass court season is well and truly underway after a gripping first week of action from around Europe has been and gone. With Wimbledon now just around the corner, action this week from Queen’s Club, Halle, Nottingham and Berlin provides players further preparation for one of the most coveted tournaments on the tennis calendar.
10:30 CET – There are important tournaments on the WTA side this week too, and it is the tournament in Berlin that is getting us underway for the week from 11:30 CET with some of the best players in the world in action.
And we are going to be treated to a player inside the top ten straight away as Emma Navarro faces Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in around an hour.Â
7:30 CET – Hello and welcome back to another mammoth week of grasscourt action as the countdown to Wimbledon continues.Â
Headline ATP action comes from Queen’s Club following last week’s maiden WTA version of the historic tournament.Â
Queen’s is traditionally seen as the warm-up tournament for Wimbledon. Still, with the history attached to the tournament, it is a lot more than just Wimbledon preparation for the players.
Winning this week would mean a lot to whoever can step up and deliver the winning formula.Â
With the top seeds not in action until later in the week, the focus is on how home players Cam Norrie and Dan Evans can get on this afternoon. Evans has the bigger test after a poor start to the grasscourt season in the Netherlands as he takes on French Open quarter-finalist Frances Tiafoe.
Norrie, meanwhile, takes on one of tennis’s rising stars, Jakub Mensik, in a fascinating encounter on day one of Queen’s.Â
Getting us underway for the week from 11:30 CET is action from Halle as Fabian Marozsan takes on Miomir Kecmanovic before third seed and one of the hot favourites (alongside home player Alexander Zverev), Daniil Medvedev, opens his campaign.Â
Follow all the action from Halle, Queen’s, Berlin and Nottingham here.
