Tornado risk is heightened Wednesday afternoon through evening. Here’s which counties are forecast to see the worst of the storm.
ST. LOUIS — A tornado watch was issued on Wednesday morning for numerous counties throughout the St. Louis region through 4 p.m.
A tornado warning was issued for the northern part of the St. Louis region through 11:30 a.m. The affected communities include portions of Illinois’ Pike County. The warning originally issued for Missouri’s Pike County has been canceled. Law enforcement in northwestern Calhoun County confirmed a damaging tornado.Â
The 5 On Your Side Weather Impact team issued a Weather Impact Alert between noon and 10 p.m. on Wednesday due to the risk of strong to severe storms with the chance of generating tornadoes. Residents throughout the region should prepare now before the storm rolls in.
The Missouri communities included in the tornado watch are:
- St. Louis City
- St. Louis County
- St. Charles County
- St. Francois County
- Jefferson County
- Ste. Genevieve County
- Pike County
- Madison County

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the 5 on Your Side area in a slight or enhanced risk area for level 2 and 3 out of 5 for Wednesday afternoon and evening. The exact timing and location of the most intense thunderstorms will be determined as we get closer. The main threats look to be gusty winds and hail but a tornado can not be ruled out.Â
Given the intense storm season we have already seen across the Bi-state region, the Weather Impact team understands the anxiety many feel upon hearing the news of additional storm threats. While the chances of thunderstorms are increasing and severe weather is possible, not everyone will see the intense storms. In addition, the ingredients do not support the intensity of some of the stronger storms we have seen so far this spring.
