Several dead after weekend of crashes in Central Florida

The first official weekend of spring break saw several devastating crashes on Central Florida highways. Officials are urging drivers to be more careful behind the wheel because more drivers are on the road for spring break. Osceola CountyIn Osceola County on Sunday, a truck driving the wrong way smashed into a car with five people inside. The victims were driving north on State Road 441 in Kenansville just before 3 p.m. when Florida Highway Patrol said a 30-year-old man from Jensen Beach was going the wrong way and hit their car which ran off the road and flipped over. Troopers say the driver and a 9-month-old baby had minor injuries, but three others in the car did not survive. They include a 54-year-old woman, a 34-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy. LongwoodThe weekend started with another wrong-way crash. That one was on Interstate 4 near the Longwood exit. A driver going east in the westbound lane slammed into a minivan. People in the van survived but were hurt. The driver at fault was killed.Orange CountyOn State Road 429 on Saturday, a driver drifted out of his lane causing a chain-reaction crash that caught up a pair of tractor-trailers. Four people went to the hospital.Volusia CountyA 49-year-old Daytona Beach man was killed after being hit head-on by a pickup truck. It happened Saturday night on State Road 415 near Osceola Tram Road in Osteen.  The state Department of Transportation told WESH 2 drivers need to be extremely cautious right now because traffic is going to be heavy, with many people here for spring break.
