Saw 11 Gets a Devastating Update

Jigsaw’s games are over, at least for now.

Per Bloody Disgusting, it’s been reported that the upcoming sequel Saw XI has been canceled. The sequel was previously announced for a theatrical release on Sept. 27, 2024, before it was then delayed to Sept. 26, 2025. While the movie’s fate hasn’t been officially confirmed, the new report quotes an unnamed source close to the production as saying, “It’s totally dead. It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.”

The new report also noted that the source stated, “Everything went sideways in January 2024… the producers started fighting.” One of the producers reportedly attempted to “plow forward” with production despite the friction, while the other “put up roadblocks,” ultimately stalling the movie from getting started. As for why Lionsgate executives didn’t get involved in an attempt to get Saw XI back on track, the source added, “[Lionsgate] didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement.”

Is the Saw Franchise Finished?

This doesn’t necessarily mean that another Saw movie won’t be made, but the planned project that was Saw XI is reportedly toast. The project insider speculated that the next sequel could be shopped elsewhere, but even if that happens, it will most likely “start over” from scratch. Whether that means Tobin Bell will or will not be returning as John Kramer once again remains to be seen, but it’s worth noting that the fan response to Saw X was very positive.

‘Whole Episode Based off of Slashers’: Jenna Ortega Teases Wednesday Season 2 Horror Themes

With Season 2 coming sometime this year, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has teased an upcoming episode based on slashers.

Initially, it was expected that Saw X director Kevin Greutert would return to helm Saw XI, and that it could be a direct sequel. Marcus Dunstan was also set to work on the script. Last June, after the movie was delayed, Dunstan shared an encouraging update on the movie’s progress. While he didn’t divulge any plot details, he said that the film was “one where it’s got something new to say, and it’s angry.”

The Saw franchise was spawned in 2004 with the release of the first film by director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell. Introducing Tobin Bell as a methodical madman who sets up elaborate traps for his victims, the film was a big hit, resulting in a plethora of sequels. One was released annually up until Saw 3D in 2010, when the franchise went on hiatus until 2017’s Jigsaw. New movies have been released more sporadicallly since, as that film was followed by 2021’s Spiral and 2023’s Saw X.

“It’s all in the writing,” Bell said of the praise that was given to Saw X last year in an L.A. Times interview, hinting he was excited to continue fleshing out the role. “It’s not all one guy outside the screen door with sidelight on him. I’m really excited about continuing to develop him. John Kramer is not done. There’s more to learn.”
