‘Saturday Night Live’ Submits a Record 42 Performers for Emmy Consideration

Saturday Night Live is pulling out all the stops for Emmy season, submitting 42 performers for consideration this year—a record number for the legendary NBC sketch series.

The sprawling list features a who’s who of hosts, cast members, and guest stars who appeared on the show’s milestone 50th season.

Among those appearing on the ballot for Outstanding Supporting Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series are every member of SNL’s 17-member ensemble cast, including this season’s new additions Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline. 

But it’s in the Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series categories where the show has submitted the most most entries this year, including each of its 20 Season 50 hosts, and a number of its  high-profile cameo performers this year, including Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris, Dana Carvey as Joe Biden, and Mike Myers as Elon Musk. 

The show hasn’t always taken such an egalitarian approach to its Emmy submissions. In 2015, it came under fire when nine hosts were submitted, all of whom were male (7 of that season’s  hosts were female). Though it wasn’t clear whether it was the show itself that had submitted any of those nine men or if they had self-submitted, recent years have seen what appears to be a more coordinated effort to ensure that all hosts and cast members are represented.

A complete list of submitted SNL performances follows below. With first-round voting now underway, this year’s Emmy nominees are set to be announced July 15th. The 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to air live on CBS Sunday, September 14.
