Roman Anthony batting 5th in long-awaited MLB debut

Major League Baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect, Roman Anthony will bat fifth and start in right field for the Red Sox in his debut at Fenway Monday night.

Anthony, 21, has played 31 games, including 29 starts, in right in his MiLB career, a grand total of 258.2 innings.

The Red Sox have also called up Brian Van Belle, a 28-year-old righty who’s pitched to a 2.29 ERA over 12 games (eight starts) for Triple-A Worcester this season.

To make room on the roster, the Red Sox placed right-fielder Wilyer Abreu on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain and designated first baseman/outfielder Ryan Noda for assignment.
