Pattinson previously worked with Nolan on the 2020 sci-fi action thriller, Tenet, and partially inspired Nolan’s latest big-screen success, Oppenheimer. Production is expected to last several months, with cameras rolling in Morocco, Greece, Sicily and the U.K. The film is also being shot using advanced IMAX technology.

The Odyssey is a feature-length adaptation of Greek author Homer’s collection of books chronicling Odysseus’ perilous voyage home after the Trojan War. For Nolan, this follows the seven-time Oscar-winning movie, Oppenheimer, which netted the legendary filmmaker a Best Director Academy Award and became the highest-grossing biopic in history. The Odyssey is the joint-most expensive film Nolan has ever made, with a reported budget of $250 million, the same as The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan penned the screenplay and is a co-producer alongside his wife, Emma Thomas.
The Odyssey Could Be Another Smash Success for Christopher Nolan
Universal executives feel good about The Odyssey and its chances of critical and commercial success. The studio’s distribution chief, Jim Orr, called Nolan’s Odyssey adaptation a “visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of” while promoting it at CinemaCon.
The Odyssey opens in theaters on Jul. 17, 2026.
