Post Malone
RodeoHouston

“Hey Posty, we are going to drive you to the stage in a brand new Ford Expedition, but you’re not allowed to drink or smoke in the SUV.”
“Don’t worry about it, I’m just gonna walk.”
/end of hypothetical conversation
And that’s what I theorize happened last night at Post Malone’s RodeoHouston debut. Instead of catching a ride or driving a cool car like other performers, Richard Austin Post chose to walk barefoot towards the star stage. It’s just a thing he does, he likes to feel grounded as he performs and doesn’t care what people think.
With a red solo cup in hand and a cigarette in the other, Post waved and smiled to the massive audience before beginning the set with track #1 from his F-1 Trilion album, a banjo-forward country tune called “Wrong Ones”. He wore a relaxed outfit of jeans, a white pearl snap button up, a ball cap, and his RodeoHouston vest and belt buckle. And of course, he left his boots in the dressing room.

What was definitely obvious is the fact that Post is a fan of pyrotechnics and fire effects. Last night’s show contained more pyro that any other show I’ve seen this season. Half of the songs of the set list contained a warning regarding flames and pyro. It was a beautiful thing to see for a pyromaniac like myself.
Malone’s career spans roughly 10 years since his 2015 debut single “White Iverson”. Although he started as a rapper, he has shifted gears releasing music in the pop, rock, and country genres, often mixing his musical taste into one big, supremely entertaining spectacle.
Post performs with so much passion, its actually a joy to watch him work the crowd. He likes to crack jokes and keep things light, but also makes sure to be grateful for every fan and opportunity. Several times he sang from his knees, belting out his lyrics with all of his soul.
“I’m honored and happy to play one of the most bad-ass venues in this world!” he declared before offering up the songs “Circles” and “What Don’t Belong To Me”.

“I love this song!” I proclaimed while watching the show from the press box.
“You love every song!” replied my girlfriend who was my plus one last night. And yes, she was definitely correct. Attending Post Malone shows over the years have always been some of my favorite assignments.
Post offered a handful of classic quotable lines throughout the night, including:
“We just came here to play some shitty songs and party a little bit!” and “If I fall it’s because this darn stage is spinning!”
The set continued with “Pour Me A Drink” before diving into his early hits such as “Psyco” and “White Iverson”. It’s really cool how Malone ventures between his older records and his latest hits.
The highlight of the evening came about halfway in with a cover of “Ocean Front Property” by the king, George Strait. “This is the first time we have done this live” confessed Post. “If you know the words, please sing along.
The crowd definitely knew the words.

As the show came to a close, Malone continued to walk all around the star stage, waving at fans and holding up the half heart hand gesture as well as the hook-em horns. “It’s good to be back in Texas!” he said before finishing strong with “I Had Some Help”, “Rockstar”, “Congratulations”, and “Sunflower”.
He also offered up a few uplifting words for the audience about following dreams and doing what you love with passion and determination.
“Houston, Texas…. You are my sunflower!” he yelled before closing beginning his last song of the night.
