Ollie Palmer names one positive of being dropped by Wrexham, it’s brought ‘so much happiness’

Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer fell out of favour in the second half of the 2024/25 season.

The 33-year-old joined the Red Dragons back in January 2022 and formed an instant connection with Paul Mullin.

The pair helped fire Wrexham out of the National League and up to League One.

However, Palmer and Mullin were both dropped by Phil Parkinson after the 3-2 defeat to Stevenage on January 28, 2025.

Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith took the starting spots, leaving the Wrexham legends out of the matchday squad.

Now, Palmer has shared one good thing to come from him losing his place in the team.

Ollie Palmer names positive of losing Wrexham place

Palmer opened up on being axed by Wrexham during Season 4 Episode 6 of Welcome to Wrexham.

In the episode, he revealed that Parkinson suggested he go out on loan in the 2025 winter transfer window.

That did not happen, however, with the striker instead watching the Dragons from home at the end of 2024/25.

Now, in the latest episode of the documentary, which was released on June 20 in the UK, Palmer spoke about how losing his place means he gets to spend more time with his family.

He said: “I prefer to be at the stadium travelling with the lads, feeling a bit more a part of it. But it’s brought a new dynamic to my life for the last four weeks. I’ve been able to spend more time with my family. That has brought me so much happiness, supporting the lads from home.”

Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin expected to leave Wrexham

Both players are now expected to depart the club before the summer transfer deadline on September 1.

Mullin is likely to join Wigan Athletic on loan, with talks over that deal said to be advanced.

Meanwhile, it’s understood that Palmer will be allowed to leave Wrexham in the current transfer window.

At present, no clubs are linked with the striker, who is under contract at the Racecourse until 2026.
