No. 4 Terps Drop Road Contest to No. 3 Northwestern, 16-4

EVANSTON, IL – No. 4 Maryland fell to No. 3 Northwestern, 16-4, on the road at Ryan Field House on Saturday. The Terps moved to 6-2 this season and 2-1 against Big Ten opponents. 


Despite Maryland scoring in all four quarters, the Wildcats (8-1, 2-0 B1G) jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first quarter that the Terps weren’t able to counter. 



Kori Edmondson, the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week for the third consecutive week, scored her 100th career goal. Maisy Clevenger led the Terps with two points (one goal and one assist). Devin Livingston and Jordyn Lipkin scored Maryland’s other goals in the contest.

 



Goalie JJ Suriano made 10
 saves against one of the nation’s best offenses. Suriano and the Terps defense held Northwestern’s Madison Taylor to two goals, the first time Taylor has scored less than three goals in a game this season. 

Nine different Terps caused a total of nine Wildcats turnovers. 

Maryland led Northwestern 14-9 in draw controls. Edmondson spearheaded this effort, tallying six draw controls. Kayla Gilmore and Emma Abbazia followed with three and two respective draw controls.

  • Kori Edmondson put Maryland on the board in the first quarter, netting a free-position shot for her 100th career goal. JJ Suriano made three impressive saves in the first period.
  • Maisy Clevenger added another Terps score in the second quarter on a free-position opportunity.

  • Jordyn Lipkin scored on a free-position shot to open the fourth quarter.

  • Maisy Clevenger (one goal and one assist) had her 11th multi-point game of her career.

Series History 

  • This marked the 32nd meeting between Maryland and Northwestern. Despite the loss, the Terps have historically controlled the series, leading 18-14 over the past 40 years. The two teams first met in 1985, with Maryland earning a 17-5 victory.
