The film is led by one of Hollywood’s most iconic actresses
Netflix has released a forgotten psychological thriller with an A-list cast that’s celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
The streaming giants are known for premiering brand new original films that boast some of the world’s most famous actors.
This year alone has seen Netflix release Tom Hardy action flick Havoc, Milly Bobby Brown’s The Electric State and Cameron Diaz’s comeback movie Back in Action.
The Old Guard 2, Happy Gilmore 2 and The Thursday Murder Club are all set to dominate the streamer’s charts this year.
Looking towards the end of the year, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery lead Netflix’s Oscar hopes.
While it’s great to have new movies to choose from, sometimes viewers just want to go back and find something they would have randomly picked up in a video store to rent.
No film seems to summarise the feelings of coming home with an intriguing film quite like Netflix’s latest release.
Released in 1995, Copycat follows a criminal psychologist and a homicide detective who must work together to find a serial killer who is committing copycat crimes modeled after notorious murderers.
Directed by London native Jon Amiel, the underrated film is perfect for fans of Se7en, Zodiac or any other detective flick.
Leading Copycat’s cast is none other than Sigourney Weaver, who has graced the screen in classic movies such as Alien, Thelma and Louise, and Ghostbusters.
Joining forces with Weaver is The Piano’s Holly Hunter, as they team up to find the killer along with My Best Friend’s Wedding’s Dermot Mulroney.
Released at a time where critics tended to be harsher on movies, Copycat holds an approval rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 58 reviews.
Its critical consensus reads: “Copycat’s outstanding cast helps this often unpleasant thriller transcend the less palatable elements of its standard-issue story.”
With box office numbers that many adult dramas dream of getting these days, Copycat pulled in $79 million against a £27 million budget.
Copycat is available to stream on Netflix now
