Journalist Katie Couric suggested President Donald Trump wants to “f— with our elections” based on his recent executive orders on creating a nationwide voter list.

“Well, you know, obviously there are a lot of people who are concerned about all these actions that are kind of happening sporadically, but when you put them together as a whole, they seem to indicate a real effort to, excuse my French, but f— with our elections,” Couric remarked on her “Breaking News” show before laughing. “And I can say that on Substack, not on network news.”

She asked Brennan Center director Sean Morales-Doyle why Trump’s order to compile a nationwide list of eligible voters and restrict mail-in voting could “raise a red flag.”

“I’ll start with the primary reason, which is that the president doesn’t get to write the rules that govern our elections, period,” Morales-Doyle said. “It’s just not his job. The Constitution gives that authority to the states and to Congress, not to the president. And this is the second time he’s tried to do this, to issue an executive order rewriting the rules that govern our elections.”

He added that the “implicit” purpose of the executive order is to pressure election workers.

“What’s implied there is that if you, election officials, let anyone vote who’s not on our national citizens list, then we’re coming for you and you can worry about being criminally prosecuted,” Morales-Doyle said.

“And so it’s multifaceted. It’s really also designed to intimidate and scare election workers,” Couric responded.

In a comment to Fox News Digital, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said, “Only Democrat politicians and operatives would be upset about lawful efforts to secure American elections and ensure only eligible American citizens are casting ballots. President Trump campaigned on securing our elections and the American people sent him back to the White House to get the job done.”

Trump’s order directs the Department of Homeland Security to work with the Social Security Administration and other federal databases to create lists of eligible voters using federal citizenship and identity data. It also instructs the U.S. Postal Service to develop new safeguards for mail-in ballots against non-citizens.

Several media figures have claimed since Trump’s second term began that the president will attempt to “rig” the 2026 midterm elections, with some going as far as to suggest he may cancel the elections altogether.
