It’s easy to forget our favorite stars are also people. There’s so many things that we don’t have in common, that we overlook the ways we’re alike.
Recently, Jeff Goldblum appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and revealed an incredibly relatable side to himself. The “Wicked” actor found himself fascinated and awestruck when he met one of his idols, Paul McCartney.
Jeff Goldblum Had a ‘Bragging’ Moment With Paul McCartney While Feeling ‘Starstruck’
While talking about Goldblum’s new jazz album, Meyers mentioned that George Clooney told him that Goldblum was backstage at his play, “Good Night, and Good Luck,” the same night as Paul McCartney.
Goldblum confirmed that he loved the play, but he’d never met McCartney before, someone he had idolized growing up.
“So, Paul McCartney. I was very excited,” he told Meyers and the audience. “And then, sure enough, after the play, I was looking and we both got a chance to go backstage and meet George and the cast. I saw him in the flesh for the first time ever, and there he was.”
“I saw him in the flesh for the first time ever, and there he was. My golly, very starstruck,” The “Jurassic Park” star raved. “because he means a lot to me. And then they were taking pictures, and he saw me, and he was very nice. This is bragging, I shouldn’t do it, but he said, ‘Jeff, Jeff Goldblum. I love Jeff Goldblum. Come here, Jeff, let’s take a picture.’”
It made my life and my year,” he confessed.
Jeff Goldblum Remembers Hearing the Beatles for the First Time
Goldblum went on to reminisce to Meyers about the first time he heard the Beatles. “I was a kid when “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” came out,” Goldblum recalled. “And I remember Suzy Connolly… in her cut-off jean shorts, and I was like, 12, 13. And they went here, come and listen to this song. It’s all mixed in my nostalgic bosom in a way that’s very, very exciting and meaningful.”
Goldblum has spoken numerous times in the past about The Beatles having a big influence on him growing up. The actor is an accomplished musician in his own right, and has been performing with his band, the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, for more than 30 years.
Goldblum most recent jazz album is called “Still Blooming,” and his “Wicked” costars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande both appear on it, as well as Scarlett Johansson and Maiya Skyes.
