Hot work for Brandon Nakashima out there so far

Draper starts game three strongly and quickly moves to 0-30. Nakashima hits back with a couple of big serves to level at 30-30 but a untimely double fault gives the Brit a first break point of the match.

SAVED. Nakashima controls the rally and Draper drifts an off-balance forehand long. The American then produces an ace down the middle but Draper’s powerful forehand pins him to the baseline and brings up a second deuce.

Nakashima lets another game point slip as Draper disguises a drop shot causing his opponent to net a backhand before a second break point earned by the Brit after finding the lines and then finishing a smash.

Talking of starting well on your serve, Draper bangs down an ace with his very first one. The second point is a little longer but Nakashima soon goes long before another big serve down the ‘T’ can’t be returned.

The Brit then flicks a forehand winner down the line and that’s as easy a love hold as you’d want. Good stuff from the world No 6.

Nakashima serves first and it’s a solid opening service game. He concedes just one point to the Brit and finishes it with an unreturned second serve that reared up well. A nice nerve-settler for the American.

The warm-up is nearly complete. This should be a fun one, with the crowd fully behind Draper as Britain’s rising star looks to build momentum ahead of Wimbledon.

Highlighting a decisive factor today, former British No 1 John Lloyd tells the BBC: “Most of [Fearnley’s] double-faults were in the net, it looked to me like he was pulling down on the serve.

“He did that in the last match. He did the same thing today.

“He looked so good at 3-1 [in the first set], I thought: ‘He’s really taken to this quarter-final like he’s been there many times before.’ And then threw three double faults in.

“You can’t do that at this level. But he’s young, these are things he’ll learn from.

“The serve, on grass, is the key stroke in the game.”

He also hints at a potential shoulder injury for Fearnley.
