Hermantown’s Aamodt makes NHL debut – Duluth News Tribune

LOS ANGELES — Hermantown hockey has officially sent another player to the National Hockey League.

Wyatt Aamodt made his NHL debut with the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday in a game against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena. The defenseman recorded two shots and played 15 minutes, 9 seconds without recording any other statistics. The Avalanche, already guaranteed a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to start next weekend, rested several regulars in advance of the postseason.

Aamodt, now 27, has paid a lot of dues since his time at Hermantown, where he was the captain of the Hawks team that

after six consecutive years as runner-up and won the Reed Larson Award (Minnesota’s top senior defenseman) and

News Tribune All-Area Player of the Year.

He then played more than two seasons in the United States Hockey League, then four years at Minnesota State, finishing his senior season as the captain of a Mavericks team that won the CCHA championship and reached the

.

After exhausting his eligibility with the Mavericks, Aamodt signed with the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles, for whom he has made nearly 200 regular-season and playoff appearances, notching 12 goals and 37 assists.

According to hockey-reference.com, Aamodt is now second among all players in NHL history in alphabetical order by last name behind only Antti Aalto, who played for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks from 1998-2001.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
