Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Sex Scenes with Timothée Chalamet in ‘Marty Supreme’

Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet are serving a steamy dynamic in Marty Supreme.

The Academy Award winner, 52, stars alongside Chalamet in the upcoming A24 project from director and co-writer Josh Safdie. The film, inspired by professional ping-pong player Marty Reisman, marks a return to acting for Paltrow after years of focusing on her various businesses.

In her recently published April cover interview with Vanity Fair, Paltrow addressed those photos of herself and Chalamet, 29, making out on the set of the film in New York City, which made the rounds on the internet back in October 2024.

“I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie,” she said. “There’s a lot — a lot.

When asked by the outlet whether there are “a lot of vulnerable positions” between herself and the A Complete Unknown actor in Marty Supreme, Paltrow quipped, “Beyond.”

Paltrow told Vanity Fair that her character “is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were,” who meets and becomes romantically involved with Marty (Chalamet).

“She’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both,” said the actress and Goop founder.

For Paltrow, the idea of an intimacy coordinator is something she “did not know existed,” as she didn’t work with one in the past.

When asked by the intimacy coordinator on Marty Supreme about whether it would be okay for her to be involved in a specific bit of physicality, “I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on,’ ” Paltrow said.

The actress recalled how she and Chalamet handled the intimacy coordinator, adding, “We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.’ ”

“I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but … if someone is like, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to put his hand here‘ … I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that,” she continued.

As for Chalamet himself, “He’s such a thinking man’s sex symbol,” Paltrow told Vanity Fair.

“He’s just a very polite, properly raised, I was going to say kid,” she added. “He’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.”

Marty Supreme is slated for release on Dec. 25.
