A Palma graduate and Seaside native has been appointed as the general manager and assistant coach of Washington State University’s men’s basketball program.The team announced hiring Orlando Johnson on Instagram, expressing their excitement about his appointment. “Johnson has over a decade of professional experience across the NBA, Europe, Asia and Australia and brings a strong player development background to the WSU program,” the announcement said.He was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings and was traded to the Indiana Pacers, where he played for two seasons. He then spent 10 years playing around the world, including the Philippines, China, Russia, Lebanon, Bosnia, Taiwan, Australia and Mongolia.”I’m incredibly excited to be here and be part of this team and staff,” Johnson said. “It’s a true honor to step in as General Manger, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. Reuniting with Dave, a childhood friend and teammate, makes this experience even more special to start a new beginning here at Wazzu.
