Donte DiVincenzo confirmed a meeting with the head coach of the senior national team of Italy, Gianmarco Pozzecco, and his intentions to represent the country in the approaching EuroBasket 2025.
“It was very nice to meet the coach,” he answered a question by Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport after helping the Minnesota Timberwolves secure a win against the Brooklyn Nets in Barclays Center on Thursday.
Over 21 minutes, the 28-year-old guard was held to 1/9 from the field for two points alongside two assists, two steals, one rebound, and one block, but the Wolves jumped to 45-32 in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season.
“The timing is related to the bureaucratic documents,” he previewed a potential final decision to suit up for the Azzurri this summer, “My father and my agent are taking care of the passport, while I concentrate on the final part of the Regular Season”.
“I would say yes, we are all on the same wavelength. For me, it would be wonderful to represent Italy. Now we just have to wait for the documents to arrive,” added DiVincenzo.
“They are all very proud of my choice. Even my girlfriend, who is of Italian origin,” he described the reaction of his family, “I am very happy.”
A former NBA champion with the Milwaukee Bucks and two-time NCAA champion with Villanova, DiVincenzo has logged 56 appearances in his seventh NBA campaign, averaging 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.3 blocks per contest.
