Actor Debra Messing stops by TODAY to discuss her new movie “The Alto Knights,” a movie about the decadeslong battle between notorious New York City mob bosses Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. “Even though it’s a mob movie and there’s violence, I think it’s a love letter to New York,” she says. She talks about what it was like to work with Robert De Niro as they played husband and wife on film, opens up about the show “Finding Your Roots” and discovering she is related to Bernie Sanders, and weighs in on the cult classic “Smash” heading to Broadway.
