EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — As Coldplay prepared to take the stage at the Sun Bowl, fans endured scorching temperatures to secure their spots for the highly anticipated concert.
Lines began forming as early as noon, with temperatures soaring into triple digits, exacerbated by the direct sunlight.
Fabiola Jordan, one of the concertgoers, said, “We wanted to beat the heat, and not be waiting in the sun.”
Jai Patel expressed his reluctance to wait in the heat, saying, “Man, I just don’t want to stand in the heat like that, I don’t think it’s that worth it.”

Despite the heat, Patel acknowledged the dedication of early arrivals. “I guess they true fans, they’ve got dedication. I can’t blame them on that one,” he said.
Emergency medical technicians reported numerous cases of heat-related illnesses among attendees. One family missed the concert after a member was hospitalized due to prolonged exposure to the heat.
Mike Gomez, whose wife was taken to the hospital, voiced his frustration.
“So we’ve been standing in line, and I don’t even know if we’re standing in the right line or the wrong line. And now my wife’s having an episode, they’re taking her to the hospital. We’re not going to be able to enjoy the concert. They could have some tents or some misters, they could have shade, they could have bottled water. They could have people selling bottled water. There’s nobody here,” he said.
Alma Mendoza, who arrived early, emphasized the importance of preparation.
“It’s pretty up there, it’s pretty up there, but it’s all about staying prepared and staying hydrated,” she said. “We made sure to start drinking water, taking extra electrolytes and all that stuff. We’ve been very careful with this heat.”
Brisa Lizama, determined to get close to the stage, said, “It’s super hot. But we want to get as close to the stage as we can, because when else is Coldplay going to come back to El Paso?” She added, “We brought chairs because we’re going to spend a long time in line,” with a laugh, noting they also brought umbrellas for sun protection.
Attendees were advised to come prepared for the heat if attending the following day.
