CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Tourism encourages West Virginians – and all those who love the state – to post their favorite memories in the Mountain State on social media to honor the state’s birthday on Friday, June 20th. Invite friends and family to visit the state by sending them a free 2025 West Virginia Vacation Guide.
“West Virginia Day is a great time to reflect on the beauty that our great state has to offer,” said West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “This year, we are once again encouraging you to show off the magic of Almost Heaven by flooding social media with photos from your favorite moments spent in the Mountain State on June 20th. Tag friends and family and start planning that #AlmostHeaven getaway you’ve been talking about!”

Recent research shows that the number of people planning vacations based on what they see on social media is at an all-time high. For the past several years, the Department of Tourism has invited travelers to share their favorite #AlmostHeaven places and moments on their social channels in honor of the state’s birthday. The results have been incredible. Tens of thousands of posts have been seen tens of millions of times, showcasing every corner of the state.
The West Virginia birthday campaigns have increased travel in West Virginia and positively shifted perceptions of the state. Suddenly, the state has become one of the hottest tourism spots in the world, consistently making top-destination lists such as BBC, Travel + Leisure, Outside Magazine, Southern Living, Matador Network, and USA Today.
