The Indiana Fever head West for a three-game trip after an eventful victory. They visit the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday, June 19.

Indiana (6-5) has won four of its past five games, most recently 88-71 over the Connecticut Sun in a game that included a couple of on-court altercations, and several technical fouls and ejections. Caitlin Clark scored 20 points and the Fever won the Eastern Conference Commissioner’s Cup title.

Golden State (5-6) is competitive in its first WNBA season, and it won three straight games before a loss to Dallas. The Valkyries rely on balance, led by Kayla Thornton. They are strong defensively (No. 4 in the league in rebounding, No. 3 in steals) but are last in shooting percentage (39.9% overall, 27.2% on 3s).

Fever vs Valkyries expert prediction for today, June 19

Chloe Peterson, IndyStar: Fever 86-78

“The Fever have been hitting their stride, and I don’t think it’s going to stop at Golden State. Indiana has won two straight, including handing New York its first loss on Saturday and making the Commissioner’s Cup final after Tuesday’s game.

“The Valkyries have already have more wins than each of the past two expansion teams in their first seasons (Atlanta went 4-30 in 2008, Chicago went 5-29 in 2006).

“Still, Indiana has more experience. Caitlin Clark has two straight 20-point games since her return (32 against New York, 20 against Connecticut) and the Fever seem to be clicking on all cylinders.

“Golden State has a heavily international roster, with five players currently unavailable because of the Eurobasket competition. The Valkyries have signed replacements, but they have a short time to get acclimated.”
