BOSTON — Jarren Duran is not in the Red Sox lineup Friday.
Left-handed hitting rookie Roman Anthony will start in right field vs. Yankees left-handed starting pitcher Ryan Yarbrough.
The Red Sox and Yankees will play the first game of a three-game series at 7:10 p.m. here at Fenway Park.
With Duran sitting, Rob Refsnyder will play left field and lead off.
Rookie left-handed hitter Marcelo Mayer is not starting. Switch-hitter Abraham Toro is at third base. Alex Cora explained what went into his lineup decisions during his pregame media session.
Boston ace Garrett Crochet (6-4, 2.35 ERA) will start opposite Yarbrough (3-1, 4.17 ERA).
The Red Sox scored eight runs on nine hits and two walks in 4 innings against Yarbrough when they faced him last Saturday.
Anthony batted .361 (22-for-61) with a .480 on-base percentage, .475 slugging percentage, .955 OPS and five extra-base hits against lefties at Triple-A Worcester this season.
Duran, a left-handed batter, is slashing .248/.282/.352/.634 in 110 plate appearances against lefties this year. It’s just his second time not starting a game this season.
