‘Bewitched’ Star Celebrates Turning 61 With a Brand New Selfie

The “Bewitched” TV series is considered an American classic. Much of this had to do with Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York, who played Samantha and Darrin, respectively. However, who can forget their daughter, Tabitha?

Two actresses played Tabitha in the “Bewitched” TV Series. Notably, they are twin sisters, but one, Erin, recently highlighted her birthday on social media. She took to her official Instagram account to celebrate her 61st birthday. She said in the post, “Rise & shine, it’s my birthday! This is 61.”

In the photo, Erin appears to be sitting on a couch, wearing a black, short-sleeved shirt.  Of course, she’s also wearing a smile on her face. Naturally, several loved ones and adoring fans of the “Bewitched” TV series took to the comments to wish Erin a happy birthday.

Why Did Twin Sisters Play Tabitha on the ‘Bewitched’ TV Series?

According to the Daily Mail, Erin and Diane Murphy began playing Tabitha on the “Bewitched” TV series in 1966. The twin sisters shared the role for more than 20 episodes. However, Erin took it over until the series ended in 1972. The character was introduced during the show’s second season.

So, why did two actresses play the role? In a nutshell, television shows depicting characters as young as Tabitha have to find ways to be in accordance with the child labor laws. Each girl could only work a certain number of hours, so having two cast members did the trick.

Notably, this is the exact reason why both Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen played Michelle on “Full House.” The “Little House on the Prairie” series employed the same tactic to comply with child labor laws.

Erin Murphy Continued Acting After the Show

For Erin, there was an interest in continuing as an actress after the “Bewitched” TV show ended. In fact, she still has the actress title in her Instagram bio. Following the show, she continued to pursue her passion and even appeared on the “Lassie” TV show.

Additionally, Erin has been in more than 100 commercials and was also a model for the Hang Ten swimwear line. She has also worked as a casting director, makeup artist, and fashion stylist. According to her Instagram, she also recently competed in the Ed Asner Celebrity Poker Tournament.

Regarding Diane, she doesn’t seem to have been interested in acting beyond the “Bewitched” TV show. As of 2019, she was the Associate Executive Director of Shelter Services for Women. She holds degrees from the University of California and Golden Gate University, Santa Barbara.
