Ayo Edebiri has revealed that her first kiss was with another girl

Queer actress Ayo Edebiri has revealed that her first kiss was with another girl. 

In an interview with W Magazine, the star, who won this year’s Golden Globe for best performance by a female actor in a musical or comedy TV series, for her role as chef Sydney Adamu in The Bear, shared an insight into the moment. 

“My first kiss was in my friend’s house, playing spin the bottle. I lied and told everybody that that wasn’t my first kiss, but it was,” she said. 

After admitting that the kiss wasn’t good, the Bottoms star was asked if she saw the person again. “Yeah, well, we’re not like friends still, but we’re still friendly,” she replied.

Asked if the person would know it was him who was being talked about, Edebiri replied: “She will see this and know that it was her.” 

What is Ayo Edebiri’s sexuality? 

Ayo Edebiri doesn’t talk publicly about her sexuality much, but she has referred to it occasionally.

In an interview with Kolor magazine, she said: “Often, you’ll find yourself being one of the few women of colour in a room or queer person,” while working in Hollywood.

She has also contributed to the queer women’s website Autostraddle, sharing her 10 favourite lesbian films, which included 1986 drama Working Girls, 1992’s Orlando, in which “stately homo” Quentin Crisp played Elizabeth I, and the 2004 comedy, Saving Face.

Is Ayo Edebiri married or dating?

She’s not married, and Edebiri tends to keep her dating history private. However, there has been speculation around romances and last year she was linked to Jamen Whitelock. The pair have been pictured together on more than one occasion but never confirmed the rumours.

In January, Edebiri shared an image of the musician kissing her on the cheek.

She has also been romantically linked to her The Bear co-star Jeremy Allen White.

The pair spoke fondly of each other in a Vanity Fair cover story, with Edebiri saying: “Work can be a very intimate thing and a very personal thing and a very emotional thing, and when you’re also in industries that are creative or creative adjacent, there’s something that invokes feelings of passion.

“Also, boy’s got some beautiful blue eyes. Those are eyes you want to project on to.”

There is one relationship that is public knowledge: with actor and comedian Colin Burgess. The couple have shared two moments: a Valentine’s selfie posted on Instagram in 2021, and, confirming their relationship, in September 2022 at the Grammys, when Burgess captioned a set of images: “Congrats to my gf Ayo on presenting her first Emmy.”

It isn’t known whether they are still together.
