Two men have been charged after an incident at a house in the Collon Lane area of Derry

A second man has appeared in court after four police officers were injured following an incident at a house in Londonderry on Thursday.

Eoin Carlin, 21, of Collon Lane in Derry, appeared at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning.

He was arrested following an incident at Collon Lane on Thursday during which police were attacked with a hunting knife during an arrest operation.

It was claimed in court on Saturday that as officers moved in to make the arrest the accused had produced the knife with a five inch blade from behind his back and lashed out.

As well as attempted murder, the accused is charged with wounding, possession of a weapon, assault and drugs offences.

His solicitor told the court that his client had received treatment for mental health difficulties.

He said his client had not realised for much of the incident that he was dealing with police.

And he said he had enquired after the well-being of the two officers involved during police interview.

There was no bail application and he was remanded in custody to appear again in person at Derry courthouse on 18 December.

Second man charged

Another man appeared in court on Friday on separate offences linked to the same incident.

Connlan Boyle, 20, from Rosskeen Park in Derry, was charged with assaulting police officers and a custody detention officer.

He is also accused of spitting at officers and being in possession of a Class B drug.

He was arrested after the incident on Thursday morning.

The court was told that Mr Boyle, who appeared via videolink, was wanted for breaching bail.

The deputy district judge remanded him into custody to appear again on 10 December.
