SO, YOU KNOW, WE’RE ASKING CUSTOMERS TO BE PREPARED FOR THAT. PNM IS ASKING PEOPLE TO MAKE SURE THEIR CONTACT INFORMATION IS UP TO DATE AND SIGN UP FOR OUTAGE ALERTS. RIGHT NOW, OUR KOAT SEVEN WEATHER TEAM IS FORECASTING SEVERE WIND GUSTS THAT COULD BE HIGHER THAN 60MPH. THESE TYPE OF WINDS COULD PRODUCE A BLOWING DUST HAZARD AND KNOCK DOWN POWER LINES. THE GOAL DURING THESE SHUT OFFS IS TO PREVENT POWER LINES FROM BECOMING AN IGNITION SOURCE. BUT IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE COULD LOOK AT BEING USED TOMORROW? YOU KNOW, RIGHT NOW WE ARE WE HAVE NOT MADE THE DECISION TO DO A PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUT OFF TOMORROW. WE’RE CONSTANTLY EVALUATING THAT THROUGHOUT THE STATE. AND IF THE RISKS OF WILDFIRE GET HIGH ENOUGH, IT IS POSSIBLE. BUT RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE NOT MADE THAT DECISION. PNM ALSO SAYS THEY WILL HAVE EXTRA CREWS ON HAND TO DEAL WITH ANY POTENTIAL PROBLEMS. PNM is advising its customers in the East Mountains it will not experience a mandatory power outage due to strong winds. PNM said it was monitoring fire risk due to strong winds in New Mexico. The power company says a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff may be necessary if conditions warrant the need for it. >>> LIVE UPDATES: Track power outages across New Mexico If outages do occur, PNM says customers should prepare for an extended outage of 24 to 36 hours. Not only is PNM evaluating conditions for an outage, they have also enabled system sensitivity controls that allow for the flow of energy to stop on power lines if an object touches a power line.
