USDA Announces Recall on Ready-To-Eat Product Sold at Walmart Linked to Deadly Listeria Outbreak

On June 17, 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a recall for FreshRealm ready-to-eat chicken Alfredo because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The heat-and-eat pasta dish was sold under the labels Marketside at Walmart and Home Chef at Kroger, and has been linked to a deadly Listeria outbreak in 13 states.

How To Identify the Recalled Chicken Alfredo

The recalled chicken Alfredo meals were sold at Kroger and Walmart stores nationwide and produced prior to June 17, 2025. To determine if you have the recalled ready-to-eat product, look for the following identifying information: 

• 32.8-ounce tray packages of Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese with a “best by” date on or before June 27, 2025
• 12.3-ounce tray packages of Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese with a “best by” date on or before June 26, 2025
• 12.5-ounce tray packages of Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese with a “best by” date on or before June 19, 2025

All recalled products bear the establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718” in the USDA mark of inspection on the label.

What To Do If You Have the Recalled Chicken Alfredo

If you have any of the recalled chicken Alfredo meals in your fridge or freezer, you should not consume them. Instead, throw them away or return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund.

Walmart and Kroger have been notified of the recall and were informed to remove the products from shelves.

More Information About the Listeria Outbreak

FSIS and public health officials are investigating a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak in 13 states that has resulted in 17 illnesses, three deaths, and one fetal loss. At this time, FSIS hasn’t confirmed that FreshRealm’s chicken fettuccine Alfredo is behind the outbreak, but multiple people infected with Listeria have reported buying the product or consuming ready-to-eat chicken Alfredo prior to getting sick. FreshRealm has issued the voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution, as FSIS investigates the source of the Listeria outbreak.

The investigation is ongoing, so, if you have consumed the recalled fettuccine Alfredo, you should monitor yourself for symptoms of a Listeria infection. Common symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, neck stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, seizures, and intestinal issues, like diarrhea and vomiting. Symptoms usually begin within two weeks of eating the contaminated food.

While most healthy individuals won’t become seriously sick, Listeria infections can lead to serious or fatal infections in older adults, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant individuals and their newborn infants.
