LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Prosecutors are reviewing whether they will pursue the death penalty for the man charged with killing another person inside a casino and then leading police on a chase through Las Vegas.
Records indicate an arraignment hearing was scheduled for Aerion Warmsley in Clark County District Court on Wednesday, but Warmsley could not attend because he remains in federal custody.
A prosecutor told the judge that Warmsley’s case will go before the death review committee, according to court records. His arraignment hearing was continued to July 3 so he could be transported to court.
Warmsley is charged with seven felony counts, including murder, in district court. Authorities allege he shot and killed 23-year-old Na’onche Osborn while they were inside Aliante Casino in North Las Vegas on Thursday, March 27.
He then allegedly fled from police by carjacking multiple people across the Las Vegas area and leading officers on a pursuit. He was taken into custody after officers rammed his car.
Federal prosecutors have also filed six counts against Warmsley related to carjacking and brandishing a gun during a crime. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges, and his trial in federal court is scheduled to begin July 14.
