27-year-old man’s body found on Lake Lanier after disappearance

A 27-year-old jumped into the water when the boat he was on came to a stop.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The body of a 27-year-old man who jumped off a boat on Lake Lanier was recovered on Sunday evening, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Officials said that after a more than 24-hour search, game wardens found Ramon Diaz-Soria’s body using sonar equipment. His body was recovered in 60 feet of water.

The DNR said Diaz-Soria was wearing a life jacket when he jumped into the water off a rental tri-toon boat in a residential cove just north of Vanns Tavern Park on Lake Lanier in Forsyth County on Saturday.

Officials stated he jumped off the boat when the boat he was on came to a stop.

However, the life jacket was not properly secured, according to the DNR. Family and friends told game wardens that Diaz-Soria could not swim, according to a report from the DNR.

The report stated he was out boating with some friends during the incident.

Once in the water, he went under and did not resurface, leaving his life jacket floating on the surface. Authorities searched until dark on Saturday and resumed on Sunday morning.

Diaz-Soria’s body was released to the county coroner.
